Balikpapan — The operatorship of Mahakam Block in East Kalimantan was officially handed over to Pertamina. This handover was conducted symbolically several hours before the turn of 2017 in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. With this transfer, Mahakam Block will be operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam.
Chairman of SKK Migas, Amien Sunaryadi said that the gas and condensate lifting of the Mahakam Block is very important for the government in meeting the state revenue target from the upstream oil and gas sector. “This is a concern of the government and SKK Migas,” Amien asserted.
The Upstream Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Syamsu Alam stated that the operatorship of the Mahakam Block is very challenging both due to its operating conditions and its fields categorized as mature fields. “These have become challenges for us to run proper operatorship of Mahakam Block,” Syamsu said.
Syamsu revealed that the main asset of the Mahakam Block is the human resource, and Pertamina affirmed that it would take a good care of the assets. “Together with our colleagues we will prove that Mahakam Block will continue to provide contribution to Indonesia,” he added.
Syamsu also requested employees of Total E&P Indonesie Indonesia who will join PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam to maintain high safety and security standards that they are currently implementing.
The Mahakam Block remains one of the largest gas producers in Indonesia. Currently, there are 695 producing wells in this working area. At the end of December 2017, Mahakam Block production was 1,286 MMSCFD of gas and 51,800 BOPD of condensate.
